Hampstead Heath

On Tuesday I took the Tube up to Hampstead Heath, one of the highest points in London. It is London's largest ancient parkland covering 791 acres and offers great views of the city.

It was a short stroll from the Tube station to Hampstead Heath through a nice neighborhood. Karl Pearson, pioneer statistician, lived here.
A view of the neighborhood on the way.
Once inside Hampstead Heath, there are lots of trails and nature, but not many maps (I only ran across one).
Given the hilly terrain, numerous trails through overgrowth, size of the park, and lack of maps, I stopped a couple of times to ask for directions to Kenwood House, near which is located near the look-out point of the city.
Almost there.
View of London. If one looks closely, one can see the Eye, BT tower, St. Paul's Cathedral, and more.
One of the people I asked for directions was an elder lady who seemed of gentry and lived in nearby Highgate. Apparently, Highgate is a very well -to-do area with people such as Sting and Pierce Brosnan living there. She commented that she often sees Pierce riding his bike around Hampstead Heath. I'm sure she'll have quite the laugh sharing her story of conversation with the uncouth youth from America, which is the butt of quite a few jokes here in London.

I walked through Highgate Village and by Lauderdale House, which supposedly housed the mistress of Charles II. At the back of the house, there is a sundial which is as the same height as the top of St. Paul's Cathedral.
