Rocky Mountains

Next stop, Colorado Springs (city proper population of 372,437). We leave Flagstaff behind as we first rage our way through New Mexico.

I really liked the look of the city of Santa Fe (capital of NM and est pop of 72,056). All the buildings and homes seemed to blend into the landscape. After passing Las Vegas, NM, we caught the sunset heading north on I-25 in NM.

It takes great courage to keep buying gas at these prices. And greater stupidity to keep driving with the fuel light on. It was on this leg of the trip that we set the record for most miles on one tank of gas - 410.9 miles. We did not let the few thousand foot climb through the mountain pass with the fuel light on deter us. The town of Trinidad (and its gas stations) was awaiting us on the other side of the pass. We even had a gallon to spare in the end. Welcome to Colorado!

Once in "The Springs" we check up on Attma, Vidya, and Nirvana. And even try to run off the road a nearby neighbor and fellow alum, Charles Sherman. Lots of people biking in The Springs. Attma has almost settled into his new home - he is just missing a 80" HDTV. But he is "starting small" with his garden in the back. Stay away birds!
